Sheffield Wednesday: Enjoyment factor key to Owls' rise

Leading scorer Fernando Forestieri’s 83rd-minute strike helped Sheffield Wednesday seal a 1-0 win over mid-table Huddersfield Town.

It was a professional away showing and the result lifted the Owls up to fifth.

Carvalhal told The Star: “I was checking the profiles of the players this week and most of them are having the best seasons of their careers so of course we are happy.

“We have a good dynamic. We understand football is a collective process but we know the individual performances can also improve and we are doing very well.”

Although Wednesday moved above Derby into fifth, Carvalhal is still paying little attention to the league table.

“The most important thing is preparing for the games,” he insisted. “You could see today that the players are focused. They’re not nervous or too excited. They are concentrating and doing exactly what we wanted them to do.

“The players were fantastic in the plan that we created. They ran and fought a lot and my players deserved the three points.

“If you go to the dressing room, everybody is quiet, drinking some water and taking a shower. Nothing has changed.”

Wednesday set a new club record of four consecutive away league clean sheets but Carvalhal stressed: “We don’t care too much about clean sheets. We try to score goals and press the opponents.”

Carvalhal was forced to make two changes to his starting line-up. Sam Hutchinson failed to shrug off an illness and Daniel Pudil had not fully recovered from a niggle picked up on international duty, handing opportunities to Alex Lopez and Joe Bennett.

He said: “They both didn’t come because they have small problems.”
