Tom Lees has signed a new deal at Sheffield Wednesday

A little over a year after signing a contract extension, Lees agreed fresh terms with promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday last night.

The popular defender had three years left on his contract but his new deal now ties him down to the Championship club until 2021.

In recent months, a number of Premier League expressed an interest in Lees’ services, including Burnley and Sunderland.

Lees, who has made 91 appearances since moving to Hillsborough over two years ago, said: “I spoke to the chairman and he has big ambitions for Sheffield Wednesday and I’m delighted to be part of it.

“I’m really happy here and like any player, I want to play in the Premier League.

“I am convinced we can achieve these ambitions together. We have made a commitment to each other and I am looking forward to helping Wednesday make the progress that everyone at the club wants.”

Lees, who is unlikely to be involved in Wednesday’s EFL Cup first round clash at Cambridge tonight, joins Ross Wallace, Kieran Lee and Keiren Westwood in prolonging his Owls stay.
