Sheffield Wednesday defender wants to finish his career at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday defender Daniel Pudil may have just signed a new one year contract but he is on a mission to ensure it's not his last at Hillsborough.

The Czech Republic international last week agreed fresh terms, to stay on at the club for another season and has immediately set a target to hang around at what he describes as 'one of the biggest clubs in the UK' a little longer.

"I am really glad to stay over here especially at one of the biggest clubs in the UK," said Pudil. "I am really glad I can stay and even my family are really happy as well, we are settled down. I would like to carry on here and I will do my best next season to get the team a little bit higher and get another deal.

"I really enjoy to be here, the place, the people, everyone is friendly to me, to my family, so as I said I am really happy to stay for another year. Hopefully this is not the last deal. I would like to carry on here and maybe finish my career here."

Pudil's career has been revitalised by a permanent switch to the centre of defence under Jos Luhukay and played a key role in a slight resurgence at the end of a campaign that began poorly and ended with six wins and two draws in Wednesday's last 10 games.

Now the 32 year-old is hoping to take the optimism from a strong finish into the new campaign.

"The last ten games I think everything settled down," he added. "We knew how we had to play, a few injured players came back, obviously the squad got bigger. We played well, we were together, compact and I think we deserved the six or seven games we won in the last 10.

"It's absolutely brilliant and now we can have a little bit of a rest and take it into the next season because this season wasn't great, everyone knows that, especially the first part of the season when we didn't play well. We didn't deserve much but we finished the season with confidence and let's look forward."
