Sheffield Wednesday: Defender keen to reward fan-tastic Owls following

Tom Lees believes Sheffield Wednesday's travelling fans can inspire them to three points at Preston North End this weekend.

It was just over a week ago the Owls, lying fifth in the Championship, sold-out their 5,500 ticket allocation for their trip to Deepdale.

And Lees is determined to repay the faith the supporters have shown in the team by securing a third consecutive league victory.

The centre-back told The Star: “It is fantastic we are taking so many fans to Preston. I thought there was a lot of fans at Birmingham but there is going to be almost double that amount on Saturday.

“Our fans are so loud in every game but it is going to be deafening with over 5,000 going to Preston.

“When you jog out on to the pitch and see that many fans in front of you, it gives you an extra push. It gives you that extra boost and you don’t want to disappoint them.

“We know it is a big game for us anyway and that will add to the occasion and make it an electric atmosphere.”

Lees, the Owls’ stand-in skipper with Glenn Loovens sidelined by a groin injury, added: “The fans have not had a lot to shout about over the last few years so it has been nice to treat them to a lot more goals and wins this season.

“But we all know we haven’t achieved anything yet.”
