Sheffield Wednesday: Carvalhal's verdict on goalline technology

The proposal was made at a meeting of second-tier clubs last Thursday and will be voted on at the league’s annual general meeting this June.

It was in August 2013 that goalline technology was introduced in the Premier League and the system is also used in the latter stages of the EFL Cup and EFL play-offs.

The technology notifies the referee if the ball has crossed the goalline via a vibration and optical signal sent to the officials’ watches within one second.

Several Championship managers, including Ian Holloway and Lee Johnson, have called for referees to be given the same help afforded to their Premier League counterparts in recent weeks.

“I’m all for anything that can help the game,” Carvalhal told The Star.

“It is something very expensive but very easy to put to work.

“It will make sure the games are more fair and help the referees make more correct decisions.”

The Owls are next in action at home to midtable Brentford tomorrow and Carvalhal hopes left-back Morgan Fox will be available for selection after missing Saturday’s triumph at Nottingham Forest because of a twisted ankle.

Carvalhal said: “We think we will recover Morgan soon. I don’t know if it will be for Tuesday. Maybe. It is not very serious.”
