Goals from Aiden McGeady, Gary Hooper and Marco Matias earned Wednesday an emphatic and much deserved 3-0 win over Forest, the Owls' first triumph in six matches.

And Carvalhal was delighted with the confidence of the performance, describing it as another step closer to what his side are capable of.

"It is not just the win, it is the way we win which is important," he said.

"We are winning playing good football. Our fans I think enjoy the way that we play.

"It was important for a win away after not easy situations in the last few games.

"We were back again against Brighton and today was another step after what we did in the Brighton game.

"My players were fantastic today and they deserved the win."

Carvalhal refused to comment on the decision to send off Barry Bannan following a foul on Eric Lachaj, insisting he would need to review the footage.

He said: "Let us see in the image. I cannot say nothing at this moment."

Bannan will now face a three match ban for his dismissal.
