Carvalhal told The Star: “Barry felt a little pain in his foot at the beginning of the game.

“But we know Barry and he is a fighter inside. Even with the pain, he fought and played to the limit.”

The Wednesday chief says Bannan’s injury “is nothing serious” and expects him to shrug off the problem in the “next few days”.

Carvalhal, who took charge of the 75th match of his reign at Molineux, was delighted with the team’s attitude and application against Wolves.

He said: “All the team played well. [Keiren] Westy, the four midfielders and attackers created an impact. When we play like a team, we are strong and in a good way.

“The whole team was very compact and the defensive organisation was very good.

“We played very well, but there have been other games this season where we have played better and not scored the second goal, so it is important that we did that against Wolves. The second goal made a difference for us.”
