Carlos Carvalhal insists he will not be looking to add a new centre half to his Sheffield Wednesday squad in January.

Carvalhal says he is happy with the options available to him for the two central defensive berths.

Sam Hutchinson’s return from centre back to midfield looked to have left the Owls short of cover, with skipper Glenn Loovens once again consistently starting games alongside Tom Lees.

But Carvalhal says is not in the market for a new central defender.

“We don’t have problems in that position,” the Portuguese said. “Glenn and Tom are playing well together.

“Sam can play there.

“We have Vincent Sasso, who has very good abilities and Jose Semedo can play in that position.

“Daniel Pudil can cover the position.

“It’s not a position at this moment that we have a problem.”

“We are happy with what we have at the moment.”

Loovens has started each of the last five matches with Hutchinson moving into the central midfield role he occupied last season before switching to defence at the start of this term.

Sasso has been involved in only eight matchday squads so far this term, making only one appearance off the bench since rejoining Wednesday on a permanent deal in August.

Semedo has also been involved in eight matchday squads and made two starts.
