No Owls player has featured more under Carvalhal’s management than the midfielder.

Lee has racked up 50 appearances in all competitions and weighed in with seven goals, including the crucial second in the first leg of Wednesday’s semi-final showdown with Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

“Kieran is a fantastic player who can stop a goal in our own half and then 10 seconds later score at the other end,” he said. “He’s a good, technical player.

“He broke the lines very well (against Brighton). It was a typical game from him.

“I’m very happy with him but I’m sure Kieran is more happy with the team than his personal performance.”

Carvalhal enjoyed the Owls’ swashbuckling football in their televised win over the Seagulls.

“I’m happy we showed what we can do to the wider audience,” he said. “We have a brand and a way that we play.

“We have a philosophy and a way of playing. Even in difficult games like on Friday, I don’t feel that my team are nervous. We played our football and enjoyed the game. We did what we must do.

“We played positive, aggressive football. We had good defensive organisation when we lost the ball. I’m very happy with the level we played at.”

Wednesday missed opportunities to put the tie out of Brighton’s reach and Owls legend Chris Waddle hopes that won’t come back to haunt his old club.

“This game’s not finished,” he said. “Give Brighton credit, they’ve had a horrendous night with injuries and everything’s been against them.

“Wednesday were excellent in spells. I just hope they don’t regret not killing this game by three or four.”
