“We didn’t make too many changes against QPR because we felt the players were okay,” he said. “We will see between now and Friday if all the players are ready or not and we will then make our decisions.

“There are players who recover better than others. Some have had little kicks and small problems in the legs between the games but we will play with a strong team on Friday.”

Winger Aiden McGeady completed over an hour of Tuesday’s draw, showing his speed and trickery, particularly in the first half.

“Aiden is now more connected with his colleagues,” said Carvalhal, who also confirmed defender Claude Dielna is close to leaving the club on a temporary basis. “He did well. He lost some energy in the second half as he hasn’t played for a long time. We felt we had to do something to try and change the game.

“I’m happy with him and we know he will do better in the future.”

Dielna is expected to to shortly join Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava on loan for the remainder of the campaign. The French defender has failed to make a single first-team appearance this term.

Carvalhal said: “I have talked with Claude. He wants to play often and let’s see what will happen in the next few days.”
