Sheffield Wednesday: Carlos pleased with Owls' attacking arsenal

Carlos Carvalhal is confident he has plenty of attacking variety at his disposal to fire Sheffield Wednesday through the run-in.

The closing of the emergency loan window proved to be a quiet day at Hillsborough with no new additions or departures yesterday.

Wednesday were linked with a move for Norwich City forward Kyle Lafferty but it is understood there had been no recent interest in the Northern Ireland international from the Owls. Lafferty joined play-off rivals Birmingham City on loan yesterday.

Wednesday head coach Carvalhal insists he is pleased with the attacking arsenal he has, particularly the versatility within it.

“We have different plans to play,” he said. “We have players who we play at the beginning.

“We have people like Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri who move very well between the lines.

“It means they can create damage. When they change the speed, they are very dangerous.

“We can play a different way when we play Atdhe Nuhiu. He opens more spaces for the other two.

“When we play with Lucas Joao, it is when teams play with the defence higher. He has pace and we use him in those situations.

“We don’t believe that the team must play all the time in the same way.”

Forestieri tops the scoring among the four strikers with 13 for the season, his most recent coming in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic.

Hooper has netted 11 times, Joao eight and Nuhiu five.
