Carlos Carvalhal is more than capable of serving up the hairdryer treatment when his players deserve it '“ but he is no Steve Evans.

Full back Jack Hunt revealed that the Portuguese delivered his first real half time rollicking during the clash with Bolton Wanderers in midweek.

Hunt – who this week converted his loan from Crystal Palace into a permanent deal – said all players need to be shown the stick now and again.

While admitting Carvalhal’s rant was fierce, the 25-year-old said it could not compare to those of his former boss Evans, who brings his Leeds United side to Hillsborough today.

“I possibly had my first real experience of the hairdryer treatment at full whack at half time on Tuesday,” Hunt told The Star. “We got a good telling off and that was really the first time I’ve seen that from Carlos.

“Normally he is such a calm, collected bloke.

“But it is very healthy for the dressing room to know that he has got that inside of him.

“You hear about some managers who are maybe too nice. I think that’s going out of football nowadays and people do shout if you’re not at it.

“That got us going and although we didn’t play well, we won the game and that was very important.

“I’m sure there will be more telling-offs to come.

“We got a good shouting there other day but it was not quite on the same level as a Steve Evans telling off.”

Whites manager Evans took Hunt to former club Rotherham United on a loan deal last season.

While Evans’ reputation as a character is not particularly positive, Hunt says he had a good relationship with the Scottish boss.

He said: “I got on well with Steve at Rotherham. he was very, very good to me.

“Our personalities got on very well.

“I know a lot of people probably won’t say that. A lot of people don’t like him or think he’s very different but he was good for me.”

Joining Hunt in committing their long term future to Wednesday yesterday were skipper Glenn Loovens and Sam Hutchinson.

Both men signed two-and-a-half year deals to extend their stays until the summer of 2018.

Atdhe Nuhiu and Barry Bannan also signed contract extensions this week.

The Owls are understood to be in talks with Watford over converting Daniel Pudil’s season-long loan into a permanent deal.
