Sheffield Wednesday: Bullen praises fans as he calls for Owls calm

The Owls’ superb come-from-behind victory over Birmingham City moved them back into the play-off zone and leaves them just six points off leaders Hull City.

But former Wednesday skipper Bullen is urging the team to stay grounded.

“It has been a significant month for us results wise,” he conceded.

“But ultimately we have not done anything yet. We have still got to go away to Derby, Brighton and Hull. They will be big games which could influence a lot.

“All we can do is keep on answering the questions which keep getting put in front of us, and luckily we have good players who are up to that task.”

For Bullen, leapfrogging fifth-placed Derby County is the next challenge.

He said: “One of the things we always tell the players is to look up the table and not down it.

“We have the quality in the squad to push even higher up the league. The chairman has been brilliant in backing the manager with the quality of players he has been able to bring in but we always take one game at a time. We know with a good run that anything is possible but we are just looking at catching the teams who are above us.

Bullen also praised the 3,000-plus Owls supporters who kept cheering on the team after Clayton Donaldson had put Birmingham ahead.

“Our changing room is right underneath the stand they were in and we could hear them signing their hearts out,” he said.

“It was absolutely brilliant.I’m just delighted for them on such a horrendous day to send them home with three points.

“It was a fantastic game of football under difficult conditions.”
