Everything conspired against the Seagulls in the first leg of their semi-final encounter with the Owls as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat and lost four players in under an hour through injury.

Defender Connor Goldson (thigh strain), striker Tomer Hemed (hamstring), midfielder Steve Sidwell (knee) and winger Anthony Knockaert (ankle) have joined their lengthy injury list and are major doubts for tonight’s return clash at the Amex Stadium.

Hughton, who could be without 10 senior players, said: “We have to be realistic enough to know it’s going to be a tough task. Sheffield Wednesday are a very good. Offensively, they have got players who can hurt you, but it is something that can be achieved.

“It will be an uphill task, but we know what’s at stake. We have got to at least score two goals. It will be mostly about the mindset and seeing which players are available.”

“It’s a cup final,” added the former Newcastle United and Norwich City boss. “There was a great atmosphere at Hillsborough and we will try to create the same at the Amex and try to make it a night to remember.

“There certainly won’t be one player in that dressing room who won’t be up for it and who’t won’t believe we can do it.”
