Bannan sat-out Tuesday’s defeat at Queens Park Rangers due a groin problem he aggravated against Fulham last weekend.

The Scotland international was sent for a scan and manager Jos Luhukay feared Bannan would miss the rest of the season.

But Bannan’s injury is not as bad as first thought and there is a chance he could be involved on Saturday in the Owls’ penultimate away match of a forgettable campaign.

Luhukay told The Star: “Hopefully Barry will be available. I don’t think he’s out until the end of the season and we must look now in the next couple of days to see if he can train and play on Saturday.

“I must look in the next days to see how Barry is in training. If he’s not free from his injury, he can’t play.”

It promises to be a stern test for Luhukay’s men, with the Tigers having won four of their last seven matches. Hull, managed by ex-Blades boss Nigel Adkins, thrashed bottom-of-the-table Burton Albion 5-0 at the Pirelli Stadium in midweek.

Victory over the Brewers moved the Tigers above Wednesday into 16th place with four matches left to play.

“We are not safe mathematically but the Burton result has gone a long way towards making sure we are in the Championship next season,” said Adkins. “We keep building and planning and we keep talking about getting our culture and our performances right.”
