Speaking ahead of the league clash Bruce acknowledged Jos Luhukay's side will be a challenging prospect for his side, who are currently 7th in the table.

He said: 'Sheffield Wednesday have been there or thereabouts. They got to the Play-Off Final a couple of years ago.

'They are a big club in their own right with big support. It just shows how the Championship is. It is difficult.

"They have got three, four, five really, really good players. We know we will have our work cut out. Every team has a threat and Wednesday will be a threat that's for sure.'

The trip to Villa Park will be a familiar one for Wednesday's star man Barry Bannan, who spent five years at the club from 2008 to 2013.

The Scottish star has been in a rich vein of form lately as he bagged August's Championship goal of the month and netted a late equaliser for the Owls against Stoke earlier this month.

"He's a player all the supporters will know well here. He has done particularly well over the last three, four years,' Bruce added.
