Aston Villa fans are angry at being charged 42 for a match ticket at Hillsborough

The match, which will be broadcast live on Sky having been moved to Sunday August 7, has been deemed a Category A game causing Villa fans to vent their rage.

One of the reasons given for their apparent annoyance at the pricing is that last season Premier League clubs signed up to a charter which put a cap of £30 on tickets for away fans.

Matt Lynch, from fans website 'The Villa View' put up a video today, stating that the pricing was 'absolutely ridiculous'.

"It's an absolute farce and its absolutely ridiculous that they expect away fans to pay £42 for a game that's on Sky and in the Championship," he said. "The reason why so many fans have got an issue with this all teams in the Premier League agreed to cap all tickets for away fans. Every club signed up to that charter so that means that every ticket will cost no more than £30 in the Premier League.

"You can bet they are all going to charge £30 but that's still £12 cheaper than what Aston Villa fans will pay to go and watch their side play Sheffield Wednesday on the opening game of the season in the Championship."

Villa fans also expressed their anger on twitter.

Supporter @Chrisjameson9 wrote, "One of the few positives of #avfc relegation was the prospect of more affordable tickets. How do @swfc justify charging Villa £42 a ticket?" Another, @VillaBoy68 said it reflects badly on Wednesday, adding: "Just seen the pricing for Villa's away game @swfc HOLD YOUR HEAD IN SHAME MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A 2 BIT 2nd RATE CLUB!"

Villa fan @james_hanrahan echoed that, stating: "#swfc sad to see how far a former big club has fallen. Ticket price a disgrace. Be lucky if half full vs #avfc expect the same in return."

And James Layfield wrote: "£42 to go to Sheffield bloody Wednesday next season! #jokers."

Hours after the announcement, fellow Championship side Reading revealed that they will charge no more than £20 for away fans who hold a season ticket for their club or are a member when bought in advance.

A statement on the club's website said: "By also capping the price of advance away tickets bought by all travelling members and Season Ticket Holders who visit our South Stand this season, it will be more affordable for away supporters to come to Madejski Stadium. We expect and encourage other clubs to follow our lead, allowing Royals fans to also benefit from reasonable ticket pricing when they journey up and down the country this season and beyond."
