Sheffield United: Young England duo Harry Chapman and Louis Reed have enhanced their Blades prospects

The midfielders were part of what Young Lions coach Paul Williams labelled “an outstanding, talented group” after winning three straight games during an under-20’s tournament against Germany, Holland and the USA.

Chris Wilder, the United manager, said: “They went away and played. It was good they did that. They are part of our first team squad. It’s different when you go away with England. It’s an opportunity to impress and they did themselves justice as we would expect. Because they are both good players.”

Chapman, on loan from Middlesbrough, featured in every match of the competition while Reed, a graduate of United’s Steelphalt Academy, started the contests with Holland and the USA. The teenager, who became the youngest player to represent United in a league fixture when he made his senior debut two years ago, told The Star last week that he is now focused on forcing himself back into Wilder’s plans.

Wilder, whose team visits Shrewsbury Town tomorrow evening, said: “The key for them both now, whether it’s a training session, and under-23 game or an opportunity in the first team, is to impress us as well.

“We were glad to see them get called-up because, after watching them within the group, we know what they can do. What they have to do now is keep on showing it.”
