Sheffield United: Winger targets Lane stay

The former Jamaica international is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the present campaign.

But, after forcing himself back into the starting eleven, Campbell-Ryce has set his heart on “achieving things” at Bramall Lane.

“I want to prove I should be here next year,” he told The Star. “I want to achieve things here, not just say that I play for Sheffield United. I want to win leagues and promotions. Not just take my bread. That’s what it’s all about, achieving things.”

“Obviously it’s up to the manager but, yes, I want to be here.” Campbell-Ryce added. “If not, then I’ll march on but I want to stay here and help this club. Yes, it’s been a frustrating couple of months because being a footballer is about being out there where it matters but I was delighted to be involved.”

The winger, signed by Nigel Adkins’ predecessor Nigel Clough in May 2014, completed his first 90 minutes since November when United were held to a goalless draw at Blackpool in midweek.

The result was greeted with jeers by some visiting supporters but Campbell-Ryce, who impressed before tiring towards the end, said: “Away to Blackpool, on a cold wet Tuesday night and on a horrible pitch, trust me, it isn’t the worst thing in the world. And I can say that from long experience.”

Campbell-Ryce, previously of Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham added: “Those are the games everybody wants to avoid but you have to play them. The pitch was terrible and the roll of the ball was impossible to judge at times. Yes, we went there wanting three points and got one. But now we move on.”
