Sheffield United: Wilder relishing thought of Millwall clash after Blades keep play-off hopes alive

United moved to within three points of Neil Harris’ sixth-placed side after beating Middlesbrough, who drop to seventh, at Bramall Lane last night.

With the Londoners set to visit South Yorkshire on Saturday lunchtime, Wilder said: “The rollercoaster of being involved with this club continues.

“The next one is going to be a cracking atmosphere, absolutely electric, I should think.

“I can see it being a bit of a slug-fest; two groups who will be giving it everything and going for the jugular.

“Full credit to my players for putting themselves in a position where these matches mean something.

“It’s all to play for.”

Two memorable finishes from midfielder Lee Evans put United in control before Middlesbrough, who were reduced to 10 men when captain Grant Leadbitter was sent-off following the midfielder’s opener, reduced the deficit through Daniel Ayala.

The result saw United remain ninth in the table with only four fixtures remaining and Wilder admitted: “I don’t think anyone can assess the play-off picture.

“There are powerful teams, like Aston Villa and Derby, who are expected to be in there, established teams like Preston, Brentford and Bristol City, and a couple of newcomers; us and Millwall.

“It’s the toss of a coin really. Everyone will be looking at all the other results.”

Although Wilder acknowledged United made hard work of nullifying Middlesbrough’s threat following Leadbitter’s second yellow card, he said: “I thought we were outstanding first-half,” Wilder said.

“I thought we played really well. Great credit to the opposition, they’ve got great players and a great prize to play for the same as ourselves.

“I thought we got tight and edgy but that shows that they (the players) care in one way.

“In another, it shows that we’ve got to become more composed when games are tight.

“We knew we had to turn up tonight.”
