Sheffield United: Why The Blades are still baffled by the fixture schedule

As The Star revealed last month, Chris Wilder's team are among only three in the division never to enjoy more preparation time than an opponent after playing a midweek game.

Having queried the situation at an EFL meeting last month, United's manager admitted to still being none the wiser ahead of tomorrow's meeting with Blackburn Rovers.

Noting that Hull City, who visit Bramall Lane on Saturday, face Leeds tonight, Wilder said: "No, I got it off my chest, had a moan up and let it go. But it still baffles us so we've got to get through this period.

"There's no obvious advantage to us is there? Not unless I've been on the beer for two days. "It's not sour grapes but it should be more equal. After this, we go Tuesday to Saturday so it's back to a more level playing field."

Given the fast turnaround, United are not expected to arrive back from Ewood Park until the early hours of Thursday morning, Wilder conceded he is considering changes for the trip to Lancashire.

United moved to within a point of the leaders after beating Millwall last weekend but, after praising the work of their fitness and conditioning department, the 51-year-old admitted changes might be necessary to reduce the risk of stress-related injuries.

"People will have opinions on whether or not it really matters," he said. "If you experts in their field though, experts who have come out of school, gone to university and then done speclialised courses for 10 or 15 years, if you ask them if 24 hours recovery time gives you an advantage they'll tell you yes, it does.

'People will have opinions and experts have one too."

"If you flipped it around, if you asked us would be rather be playing on a Tuesday and our opponents on a Saturday playing Wednesday, the answer would be yes," Wilder added. "But we have to get on with it and  we will."
