United, who maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the League One table after Tuesday’s 4-2 victory at Swindon, have caught the eye with some breathtaking football this season - but had to show their character and fight at the County Ground, as the Robins recovered from 2-0 down at half-time to level at 2-2.

And Wilder, who saw Jay O’Shea net his first goal for the Blades with Caolan Lavery, Kieron Freeman and Paul Coutts (penalty) also on target, admitted: “I’m not going to play one way and just hope it happens. When we have to scrap it out, we will do.

“Swindon took unbelievable chances with the ball; their strength is their weakness and you have to try and contend with that. When they got it back level, we had to go again and we did.

“We’ll sort the little bits and pieces out. I think our fans wants to see a team that’s enjoying itself and is ready to take on challenges in the games coming up or during games.”

“Everyone we play has got something to fight for,” Wilder added. “But we’ve shown we are prepared to fight too and, as I’ve always maintained, it’s about finding ways to win from different situations. Which is what we’ve done again.”
