Sheffield United's defeat to Wigan Athletic has left them with a 'sizable hill to climb' to gain promotion according to The Star's Blades writer James Shield.

A penalty from Will Grigg, who would go on to miss another later on, plus a debut goal for Conor McAleny won the three points for Gary Caldwell's men.

Giving his view in the aftermath, James said: "It was desperately disappointing for a number of reasons, leaving them with a sizable hill to climb. It has almost certainly signaled the end of any last lingering faint hopes of automatic promotion and leave Sheffield United now looking for one of the final play off places. Even that is going to be difficult, certainly not impossible but they really don't have much margin for error now in terms of slipping up."
