Sheffield United: Turnbull leaves as part of Wilder's reshuffle

The former Middlesbrough, Doncaster Rovers and Chesterfield centre-forward’s exit follows the arrival of Matt Prestridge at Bramall Lane.

Prestridge, who worked alongside new manager Chris Wilder at Northampton Town last season, takes charge of United’s sports science department.

“Matt has been outstanding for me, in terms of (the) number of days players (can) train,” Wilder said. “Statistically, we had a fantastic record at Northampton and although there are always going to be injuries, we need to keep the players as fit as possible, motivated and ready for action.

“Alan (Knill, United’s assistant manager), Matt and myself work very closely as a team but it’s not insular, all the staff have a part to play. It’s about the football club getting the results we need every Saturday and Tuesday. The staff have a part to play, it is a group effort, not just about the 11 that go out on to the pitch.”

Turnbull, aged 48, was appointed by Wilder’s predecessor Nigel Adkins. His presence coincided with the arrival of Martyn Woolford, Dean Hammond and Alex Baptiste in South Yorkshire. Lee McMahon, United’s long-serving strength and conditioning coach, has also left as part of Wilder’s summer reshuffle.

“We wish Lee and Lee well with their careers,” he said. “It is part of the restructuring plan going forward.”
