Philliskirk issued the warning after scoring his fourth stoppage time goal of the season during last weekend’s shock draw against Walsall.

“I have scored nine this season and four of them have come late on,” the centre-forward said. “It was a great feeling to score such a late goal, although I wish it was a winner. To be honest, it felt like a winner to grab a point so late on.”

Philliskirk joined Neil McDonald’s side for a cut-price £75,000 fee from Oldham Athletic earlier this month and, despite spending less than three weeks on the Fylde coast, has already seen enough to believe his new employers can avoid relegation from League One. Blackpool enter the meeting with United 19th in the table, only a point above the bottom four, but confident of causing another upset.

“We’ll have ruined a lot of coupons with that late goal, I think,” Philliskirk said. “Everyone was expecting Walsall to win and was writing Blackpool off, so we had nothing to lose. But the manager believes in us and all the staff do too.

“I thought we were a little bit negative first half but we had some really good chances. I thought overall we deserved the point. The boys are doing well and there’s a good team spirit.

“When things were going against us at Walsall, we really stuck together and got what we deserved in the end. That could be a big point at the end of the season.”

Philliskirk , aged 24, spent two years at Bramall Lane after initially arriving on loan from Chelsea in 2011 before returning to Oldham, where he progressed through the youth system, following a brief spell with Coventry City.

“We have had two good results now and we want to carry it on,” Philliskirk, who also scored during Blackpool’s 5-0 victory over Scunthorpe, said. “When you come to a new club there’s pressure but I’m working hard.

“Luckily I got myself in the right position for the equaliser. The ball fell for me and I was able to tuck it away.

“We are showing some really positive signs now and can build on that.”
