Sheffield United full-back John Brayford believes Wigan Athletic's capitulation at the DW Stadium when the sides met last month could be playing on the Latics' minds today.

Gary Caldwell’s team arrive at Bramall Lane with the memory of throwing away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with the Blades still fresh, and Brayford says it could play a major part in this latest League One promotion tussle.

Two goals from Matt Done and another from Billy Sharp helped earn a draw for United, who could well have won the encounter right at the end but for a fine save from Wigan keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

And now Brayford is calling on his teammates to recapture that determination again.

“We should have been the team that went on and won at Wigan,” he said.

“Their goalkeeper pulled off a great save in the last few seconds.

“You never know, that may be in the back of their minds. I would imagine their manager is drilling into them they need to perform like they did for the first hour of that game.

“Visa versa, we need to perform like we did in the last half hour.

“People can deny it, but there’s always that niggling feeling at the back of your mind.

“They know we can hurt them at times. We proved it on that day.”

United are ninth in League One, ten points behind fourth-placed Wigan, having played a game less than their rivals.

The Latics are unbeaten since losing to Blackpool on December 12 - an eight-game streak - while Nigel Adkins’ side have lost just once in the league in that same period.
