Sheffield United: Pompey eye Blades ace Scougall

The Sheffield United midfielder was targeted by Paul Cook, the League Two club’s manager, before the deadline for permanent signings earlier this month after failing to command a regular place in the starting eleven at Bramall Lane.

Despite failing to push through a temporary deal before the transfer window closed on February 1, Cook is understood to still be interested in capturing Scougall on an emergency loan.

He has previously lured Scougall’s United teammates, Marc McNulty and Kieron Freeman, to Fratton Park.

Speaking before last weekend’s game against Port Vale, United manager Nigel Adkins said: “The loan window is open until the end of March and there is potential for activity, both in and out. I am determined to do everything I can to keep pushing on this season, I am not giving up on it. I know we are not where we need to be, but we will get there.”

Scougall, who joined United from Livingston two years ago, has also been monitored by several teams north of the border.

St Johnstone and Hibernian were reportedly preparing bids last month although the latter later distanced themselves from those claims.

The 23-year-old has made 51 starts for United after being brought to Bramall Lane by Nigel Clough.
