Sheffield United part company with Nigel Adkins

Sheffield United are reportedly saying farewell to Nigel Adkins today.

After top-level talks about his future, it seems that a decision has been taken to bid him farewell after a season of under-achevement.

United's top brass spent hours discussing the issue in the city yesterday.

And it now looks like Chris Wilder, who guided Northamtpon Town out of League, could take his place.

In h is playing days, Adkins was a goalkeeperwho egan his career with his local side Tranmere in 1983.

He played 86 times for them before moving to Wigan in 1986. Adkins appeared 155 times for The Latics, but his playing career was cut short when he suffered a double spinal fracture.

His management career started with Bangor City and then Scunthorpe United.

He joined the Blades only last year, United finishing a disappointing 11th in the table, winning 18 of 46 games.
