Sheffield United: No squad better than ours in this league, says Chris Wilder

United remained five points clear at the top of League One despite being held to a draw by Graham Alexander’s second placed side.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Bolton Wanderers in third, Willder said: “I wouldn’t want to be in any other training ground in the division, apart from ours.

“The players we have got, their character, attitude, ability, I wouldn’t swap our changing room for any other.

“We are in a great position with 13 games to go.

“We have some big games coming up, including one next weekend which we have to get ready for.

“If they go about their business like they have done this last week, we are going to be a tough team to stop.”

Wilder admitted that his United players had looked disappointed following the 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane, but the manager told the squad they had no reason to feel that way.

“There’s a little bit if disappointment in the dressing room, but I have told them there is no need for that,” he said.

“That was a proper performance by my team.”

Nearly 28,000 people - United’s biggest crowd since 2012 - watched Wilder’s side dominate the first-half of Saturday’s game before falling behind when Paddy Madden scored early in the second period.

Billy Sharp claimed his 21st of the season as United immediately drew level before Madden and substitute Jay O’Shea both hit the woodwork during the closing stages after Harry Toffolo had been dismissed for the visitors.

Wilder hailed Blades in the stands as much as he praised the ones on the pitch.

“There’s a proper football team here which I think the fans are happy to get behind,” Wilder said. “To have 26,000 home fans in February, it’s not a title decider, it’s not the last few games where you’re looking to win promotion, the support we have had this week, and today, has been magnificent.

“The atmosphere was electric, an unbelievable atmosphere.”

Claiming United had made a “very good” Scunthorpe side look “distinctly average at times,” Wilder added: “We have Bolton, Charlton, Millwall and Bradford coming up, these are games you want to be involved in. We are relishing being top of the division.

“Bolton will be a tough old game, but I would take another performance like this.

“If we had had a bounce of the ball, or a little bit more quality when we needed it, then we would be a tough team to stop.”
