Chris Wilder has revealed his overhaul of Sheffield United's first team squad is far from over despite signing seven new players since returning to Bramall Lane.

Although a centre-half, a central midfielder and possibly a winger were thought to be the remaining items on the manager’s wanted-list, he suggested United’s recruitment drive is likely to continue for at least another two transfer windows.

Citing Derby County, their opponents in a recent pre-season friendly, as the perfect example for his team to follow, Wilder said: “They came to us after playing a game at Chesterfield, with a different team, the day before. For every

Darren bent and a (Johnny) Russell, there was a (Chris) Martin and a Tom Ince. A (Chris) Baird. Eventually, that’s what I want here where it’s like for like throughout with the younger kids, from the academy where they’re some really good work going on, supporting everything and forcing their way in.”

United begin the new League One season with a visit to Bolton Wanderers this weekend where Mark Howard, whose departure was officially confirmed following Wilder’s appointment, could start in goal for the hosts.

Wilder, who has signed the likes of Chris Hussey and Leon Clarke to compliment existing players such as John Brayford, said: “We all understand what we’re trying to do. One of the challenges we’ve tried is to get the best out of the players. We’ve got the best right back in the division here as we’ve seen under the previous manager minus one. Hussey too. People here like the full-backs to get forward.”
