The former Blackpool full-back resumed training with the first team squad at the Steelphalt Academy this morning although Nigel Adkins confirmed he will not be considered for selection against Swindon Town on Saturday.

“Bob is back in training, it was his first session today,” Adkins, the United manager, said. “We’ll see how long he takes. We’re just pleased to have him out there and, all being well, he’s come away from the session without injury. It was a good training session and the quality was excellent.”

Harris has not made an appearance for United since December 5 but, barring any unforeseen complications, could bolster Adkins’ defensive options at some point next month. Another full-back, Kieron Freeman, is viewed as a potential loan target for Kilmarnock after losing his starting place to John Brayford.

“John Brayford is playing right back at the moment,” Adkins continued. “The club spent a lot of money bringing him in and he’s been doing very well. John Brayford has got the short. Kieron, like a lot of players, will want to play. I’m sure he’ll want to play football? Who knows? He might want to do that somewhere else. There have been clubs who have shown an interest. I have total empathy for players who aren’t playing. They should want to go and play.”
