Sheffield United: '˜If I don't deliver, I'll be out' two goal hero David McGoldrick admits

The former Republic of Ireland international was on target twice as Chris Wilder's side moved to within a point of the Championship leaders by beating Millwall at The Den.

Both of McGoldrick's strikes came during the closing stages of a match United dominated for long periods only to find themselves 2-1 down following a dramatic comeback by Neil Harris' side.

But, coming only a week after he scored a last gasp winner against Preston North End, the 30-year-old admitted he remains under pressure to perform because of the attacking options at Wilder's disposal.

"I came here and I backed myself to get the move," McGoldrick, who joined United following a successful trial, said. "I'm playing and I'm scoring but I know, because there's Leon (Clarke) and Conor (Washington) sat there on the bench, that I've got to keep on doing it because otherwise they will come in.

"The bench here is really strong. You've only got to look at that fact someone as good as Ben Woodburn, with all the talent he's got, didn't even get on it here."

United remained fourth in the table after heaping more misery on Millwall, who have lost seven of their last league games. But they will prepare for Wednesday's visit to Blackburn Rovers only a point behind leaders West Bromwich Albion and searching for a third straight win.

"Leon scored the goals he did last season," McGoldrick continued. "He was the leading scorer here and Sharpy (Billy Sharp) also got into double figures so you know they were taking their chances.

"Conor has come in and everyone can see the quality he's got as well. Knowing that just drives me on."

Sharp also found the back of the net in London, claiming his sixth of the season after earlier seeing a penalty saved by Millwall's Ben Amos. Millwall turned the contest on its head when Jake Cooper and Lee claimed a goal apiece in three second-half minutes before McGoldrick burst into life.

"I'm quite laid back so maybe that's why I'm always getting these late ones," he said. "To be fair, I didn't think I was playing that well but then it all came right at the end.

"I'm loving it here and, the way we approach our football, it suits me down to the ground. But if I don't keep doing what I'm doing, then I know other people are going to come in."
