Sheffield United hands over £24,000 to city cancer charity

A Sheffield cancer charity has been presented with a cheque for more than £24,000 by Sheffield United.

The £24,135.45 was the total raised at a charity gala dinner organised by the football club.

It was presented by the Blades to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity at the club’s game against Port Vale at Bramall Lane.

At the charity gala dinner, at Chatsworth House, items auctioned off on the night included a 1973 green Land Rover, donated by lifelong Blades fan and Hollywood actor Sean Bean, which sold for more than £8,000.

Other lots included holidays to the Maldives and Las Vegas and a framed canvas of the latest Joe Scarborough painting, which features Bramall Lane.

Singer, pianist and model, Myleene Klass, performed at the event and world-famous Tenor John Hudson.

Sheffield United’s Operations Director and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity patron, Dave McCarthy, said: “It’s extremely rewarding to have been able to present this amount to Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

“As a community-focused football club, we at Sheffield United place great importance in supporting regional charities which do so much.”
