Sheffield United: Ethan Ebanks-Landell passes on his finishing skills to pal Leon Clarke

Blades striker Leon Clarke may have missed a fair chunk of games through injury this season, but that didn't stop Ethan Ebanks-Landell from indulging in a little gentle ribbing about his own goalscoring exploits.

Ebanks-Landell, Sheffield United’s goal hero from Tuesday night, and Clarke are old friends and so after slotting in a 93rd minute winner, the on-loan Wolves man made sure one particular team mate was going to know about it.

“Leon needs to listen to my advice,” said Ebanks-Landell, whose winner against Bury was his fourth in 14 appearances, while Clarke has scored three in 13.

“Sharpy was saying what a good finish it was,” he added. “So if he knows it, Clarkey knows it too. I’ll be telling him all about it back at the apartment.”

Ebanks-Landell, who revealed after Tuesday’s game that he wants to stay at Bramall Lane until the end of the season, admitted he was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and that Chris Wilder’s words at the break were a huge help to the team on a frustrating night.

“The Gaffer said just go up front (at the end) and I was lucky enough to find myself in the right position,” he said.

“He said at half-time, don’t get frustrated, keep moving the ball quick and something will happen. Which, to be fair, it did.

“Even with 11 men, we want to play good patient football at a good tempo.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield United’s odds to win the League One title have shortened to 13/8 (Skybet), while they’re now odds-on at 4/7 (William Hill) to gain promotion next May.

They travel to Charlton on Saturday priced as BetVictor’s 6/4 favourites to secure three points.

According to the match stats team at bettingexpert.com, the Blades have failed to score in an away league fixture only once this term; in their last three away matches, they’ve scored ten goals, a record which enhances the appeal of bet365’s 12/1 odds for United to win by three or more goals.

However, only one League One side has conceded fewer home goals than the Addicks, a record which accounts for their slightly shorter-than-expected 9/5 starting price (Bwin), although Ladbrokes chalk 8/11 about both teams finding the net, with the Blades offered at even money (Winner.com) to open the scoring.

They’re always likely to concede, but United’s goalscoring firepower should be enough to settle this contest. Punters who concur can get a huge 28/1 (Paddy Power) against them winning 3-2, although less precise backers may prefer Betfred’s even money for the duel to yield more than 2.5 goals.
