HRH Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Kevin McCabe both want to assume sole control of the club after the partnership they established in 2013 seemingly broke down.

Wilder, whose side are five points behind the play-off positions with two matches remaining, is understood to have presented several targets to Bramall Lane’s board of directors in recent weeks.

But, referencing the relationship between United’s two co-owners, he said: “I’ll be honest, there’s uncertainty. I’ve not had any direction on where we are going really.

“I don’t want to get too much into it. But obviously I’m a planner. I have to plan because that’s what we’ve done since we walked through the door; medium and long-term.

“But there hasn’t been (any directives) and there has to be, pretty quickly as well, to give us a chance to get the maximum out of what we’re going to do for next year.”

Wilder, who delivered the League One title at the first time of asking last term, has steered United to 11th in the table ahead of Saturday’s game against Preston North End. The match, their final home fixture of the season, is set to decide if Wilder’s squad travels to Bristol City next weekend still fighting for back to back promotions or preparing for another year in the Championship.

“Everybody wants that solution,” the United manager added. “I should imagine both the owners do as well to be fair. I shouldn’t imagine they are particularly enjoying what is happening either.”
