Sheffield United: Chris Wilder rules out further trialists

Chris Wilder, the League One club’s manager, has taken the decision in order to protect both the character and quality of his first team squad.

“I don’t see anybody else coming in,” Wilder said. “I can’t see it happening.

“As I’ve spoken about previously, I don’t want the place becoming like Piccadilly Circus where people are rushing through, coming and going all the time.

“I don’t think that’s good for those who are already here or for us.

“We talk about the group a lot, place a lot of importance on it and so we want to keep it as strong as we can.”

United invited a small band of players, including Reece Brown, Chris Burke and Cameron Stewart, to try and win contracts at Bramall Lane earlier this season.

Although only Brown, the former Bury defender, was successful, Wilder has refused to rule out the possibility of running another round of auditions.

But, he stressed, only when the time is right.

“If somebody is available now,” Wilder added. “The chances are it’s for a reason.

“Not necessarily a bad one, but a reason nonetheless.

“We’re always on the lookout but there has to be solidity and some stability to what you do.

“It’s all about getting that balance right, and we will.”
