United, who face Swindon Town at Bramall Lane this afternoon, are third in the division and trail second-placed Bolton by just two points.

United are without a win in their last three games but three of their next four games are at home, and Wilder said: “I think we can all look at every game as vital but being at home so much is good.

“The boys are disappointed in terms of one point from six, as we felt we deserved a lot more from the two games.

“Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve and we have to dust ourselves down and go again. I’m looking for a front foot performance against Swindon.”

United are expected to make changes after Sunday’s FA Cup defeat at Bolton, with Wilder admitting some of his players failed to stake a claim to stay in the side.

“I thought some of them took the opportunity but some of them might be individually disappointed that they haven’t done a bit more,” he said.

“But the support yet again has been superb, even on Sunday. Hopefully we get close to 20,000 against Swindon and we can produce the performances we’ve had in the 15 games - and just add that final little bit to gain us three points.”
