Sheffield United: Chris Wilder believes his squad has only shown glimpses of its potential despite moving to within two points of the Championship leaders

United are preparing for this weekend's visit to Millwall fourth in the table, two points behind leaders Leeds and Middlesbrough, after winning four of their last six games.

But Wilder, despite being encouraged by its performances in recent weeks, claimed his team has only shown glimpses of its potential since returning to action two months ago.

"We're nowhere near the finished article yet," he said. "Yet we're still battling it out with some ridiculously powerful football clubs.

"It's the attitude, 100 per cent, that enables the lads to do that. Plus, and I don't really care what anyone else might say away from here, the fact they've got talent and ability.

"What I really like, though, is the fact they're willing to learn, get better and really put it all in. That makes them what they are."

Despite being constructed on a fraction of the budget, Wilder's squad is out-performing a number of big-spending rivals including Nottingham Forest, Swansea City and Aston Villa. Neighbours Sheffield Wednesday regularly lavished millions on players before being forced to adjust their recruitment policy in order to comply with English Football League regulations. 

"We're sensible and we're trying to build something, in the right way, that's sustainable," Wilder said. "We're moving in the right direction but I know there's still a lot more to come from this group because, as well as anyone, I know their attitude."
