Sheffield United: Chris Wilder asks fans to '˜trust' club over Ethan Ebanks-Landell's future

The defender has been a huge success since joining Chris Wilder’s side on transfer deadline day, prompting fears the Championship club could trigger a break clause in his season long agreement when the window reopens next month.

Although Ebanks-Landell recently confirmed he wants to remain with United until the end of the campaign, Wilder, chief executive Stephen Bettis and head of football administration Carl Shieber are yet to receive confirmation that his wish will be fulfilled.

“Ethan is a popular theme and I completely understand that,” Wilder said. “Supporters have got to trust myself, Steve Bettis and Carl Schieber to do what’s best for the club.”

Despite refusing to elaborate on the situation, Wilder’s comments suggest Wolves were trying to elicit some sort of undertaking from United about their plans for Ebanks-Landell before Paul Lambert’s appointment.

The former Aston Villa and Norwich City chief, who took charge at Molineux when Walter Zenga was sacked last month, has outlined plans to cut the size of the squad he inherited from the Italian and review the status of his own loanees but will watch Ebanks-Landell in action against Walsall tomorrow.

“He’s said he wants to stay which is good,” Wilder said. “There’s work going on behind the scenes.”
