Sheffield United: Chris Wilder admits Waghorn deal is not progressing as the striker looks likely to join another Championship club

Speaking to Sky Sports after last night's 1-1 draw against Italian giants Internazionale at Bramall Lane, Wilder admitted that United had been priced out of a move for the striker.

United reportedly placed a bid of £5million for the 28-year-old earlier in the week, but the Suffolk club rated him at £8-10million.

The Blades, who have already broken their transfer record this summer on defender John Egan, made it clear they could not afford to pay more than £5million for Waghorn.

Wilder confessed that the deal was not moving at the moment and said: "We've only got a set amount of cash to work with and we've got to get the maximum out of that. We've got our own strategy at the football club, we're not boom and bust.

"We have to be clever, we have to find players from different areas. I think there's a tendency for clubs to just sign in vogue players and we've picked out David McGoldrick.

"We'll still try and compete but there's some powerful teams out there so we think we offer something a bit different and we're still looking to bring a couple of players in here.

If the club are looking for £8-10million then that's not our valuation. It's their prerogative, they can do what they want to he's their player. If it moves it moves, if not we'll move on."

Waghorn is now being linked to the Blades' Championship rivals Derby County, with new manager Frank Lampard reportedly ready to meet Ipswich's valuation for the player who scored 16 league goals last season.
