The defender is one of a number of players whose contracts expire at the end of the current campaign, although discussions aimed at extening those deals are thought to be ongoing.

And Basham, who is expected to make his latest appearance for Chris Wilder's men tomorrow night when they host Birmingham City at Bramall Lane, revealed: 'The manager has spoken to me, and I'm very comfortable with the situation.

'I want to get it done, but sometimes things take time in football. As I say, I'm comfortable with it and I'm sure it'll get done soon enough.

'I class myself as a big player for this football club, so it'll come when it comes.'

Billy Sharp and Paul Coutts are also amongst the senior players who are in the final year of their contracts at Bramall Lane, and Basham has set his sights on overtaking Chris Morgan's number of appearances in red and white.

'I'm coming up to 200 which is a great milestone for me,' Basham said, 'and if I can overtake someone like Morgs, who was a massive player for this club, then that'd be great.'
