Sheffield United: Blades co-owners set for crunch talks in attempt to resolve club's ownership issues

The Star understands face to face discussions between the pair have been tentatively scheduled for next week, although the timing could change depending upon events elsewhere.

Prince Abdullah launched his bid for sole control earlier this year when a company controlled by McCabe signalled its intention to end their partnership by purchasing his 50 per cent stake in United's parent company Blades Leisure Limited (BLL).

News they are set to discuss the matter personally is likely to be welcomed by manager Chris Wilder, who recently admitted a lack of "clarity", "harmony" and "direction" could force him to consider his position.

Although there are no details on where the summit will be held, it is expected to take place on neutral territory. Advisors working on behalf of both men could also attend.

A number of new appointments were made to BLL's board shortly before United officially confirmed Prince Abdullah and McCabe were "in discussions regarding the transfer of ownership and control and Sheffield United Football Club to the Prince" three months ago. McCabe, who had stepped down as a director of BLL in August 2017, returned in December.

Jan Van Winckel, described by Prince Abdullah as "an experienced football man", was handed positions on the boards of both BLL and Sheffield United FC. They met when the Belgian worked for the Saudi Arabia Football Federation during Prince Abdullah's tenure as the Kingdom's General President of Youth Welfare.

Despite possessing one of the smallest budgets in the division, Wilder led United to a 10th place finish in the Championship last season. They were in play-off contention until the penultimate match of the campaign.
