The striker's penalty was enough for Chris Wilder's men to see off Hull City, managed by his predecessor Nigel Adkins, 1-0 at Bramall Lane and send them a point ahead of West Brom at the top of the table going into next week's international break.

Wilder, whose side recorded a fourth straight victory, kept faith with the same starting eleven that has seen United through that period and although Adkins' Hull were resilient enough in defence, United eventually found a way through when McGoldrick kept his composure from 12 yards and sent David Marshall the wrong way.

The penalty itself came when Eric Lichaj was adjudged to have fouled Jack O'Connell in the box, but it was nothing more than United deserved after another dominant performance. Just before the goal, though, United were indebted to goalkeeper Dean Henderson for a superb stop to foil Henriksen, whose header was goalbound until the Manchester United loanee dived to his left and kept it out.

Henderson was named the sponsors' man of the match after also doing well to keep out an effort from Nouha Dicko. But he wasn't to be beaten, and United - who also brought on Paul Coutts for his home 'return' after his broken leg, weren't to be denied.
