James McCourt, who went to Tapton school, was shocked by the sudden death of Dale at the age of 62. Just days earlier, James had shared videos on his Facebook page of him presenting the National Lottery with Dale.

The pair first met in 2005 and delighted viewers with their banter on the lotto show. James, who is now an LA-based TV host, said Dale had been inspiring.

“Every Wednesday and Saturday night for two years we tried to bring some sparkle to the National Lottery draws and have some fun with it,” he said.

“Dale was always very gracious and gave me sound advice about pursuing a career in TV presenting. His own perseverance was the reason he landed Supermarket Sweep and it was very inspiring.”

James said even at such a sad time, he smiled at the memory of Dale.

“It’s sad that he is gone at such a young age, but now he’ll be forever young to us all - and we both agreed we always wanted that!

“He brought such warmth and humor to everyone around him and millions at home too. Rest in peace Dale Winton.”
