Sheffield trio honoured by sports champs
Three Sheffield students received honours from two sporting champions at a Leeds prizegiving.
Women’s rugby legend Maggie Alphonsi MBE, and European Featherweight Boxing Champion Josh Warrington made presentations to winners of the annual United Learning Best in Everyone Awards.
Sheffield Park Academy’s Abigail Kirk received the year 10 to 13 social action award, while Sheffield Springs Academy pupils Kenzie Doman and Robbie Brown were named winners of independent learning and resilience awards.
The event at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds was attended by United Learning schools from across the country, to celebrate the achievements of students and teachers over the past year.
Executive Principal Craig Dillon said: “Abigail has been a real inspiration, helping to set up an anti-bullying committee within the academy, as well as taking part in the South Yorkshire Police Inspiring Youth Award.
“Kenzie and Robbie have overcome challenges to make a real contribution to the academy. Congratulations and very well done to all three on their awards, which are thoroughly deserved.”
Jon Coles, Chief Executive of United Learning, said: “These awards celebrate the ingenuity, talent, resilience and excellence shown by the winners from across our secondary schools.
“We had numerous applications for each award and deciding which ones deserved to win was never easy given the quality of each nomination.
“The winners can be proud that their achievements have been recognised and assessed against very strong competition from across the country. We are a truly national group and our winners represent every area of the country and every type of achievement.”
There was fierce competition cross all the award categories. Special guests Maggie Alphonsi and Josh Warrington were co-hosts.
