The men were held by South Yorkshire Police yesterday after officers were called to Marden Road, Nether Edge, following a stand-off between protesters and tree fellers.

Protesters gathered on the street after Amey workers arrived to fell a tree as part of the firm's contract to resurface all of Sheffield's roads and pavements.

The firm has already felled around 4,000 trees across the city.

The protesters have been 'reported on summons', meaning they will receive a court date through the post and when they attend they will be charged.
