Stead had a spell in 2003/04 with tonight’s opponents while Kyle Howarth and Nathan Greaves were part of the Comets’ squad last season.

The Sheffield captain is hoping that that can have an influence on the meeting as the Tigers look set to be without British under-21 champion Josh Bates who has a shoulder injury.

Said Stead: “That bit of inside knowledge of the track can be beneficial and we’ll be looking to use that to our advantage.

“They’ve got some very capable, talented riders in their team so we’re all going to have to be at our best.

“I’m really looking forward to it because it’s always a great place to go to. It’s a fantastic race track, they’ve got some fantastic fans and I’m sure it’s going to be a great meeting.

“We’re on a great run of form right now and we all want to keep it going for as long as we can.

“It’s a shame with Josh’s injury because he’s been fired up and going well and it’s a blow for the team too.

“It’s down to the rest of us to pull together and get the job done.”

Stead has pinpointed the performances of French youngster Dimitri Berge and has praised the Sheffield No 2.

“Dimitri is absolutely flying right now,” said Stead.

“He fully deserved his maximum on Thursday and it’s been a great week for him with him qualifying for the World Under-21 Championships as well.
