Sheffield Tigers aim to make Premier League statement

Sheffield ace Dimitri Berge wants his side to get their Premier League season off to a winning start against Rye House tonight (7.30pm).

It’s been a positive start to the campaign for the Owlerton outfit, qualifying for the semi-finals of the League Cup after losing just one of their six group matches.

That defeat came at Ipswich last Saturday and Berge wants to get back to winning ways tonight. “Getting through to the semi-finals of the League Cup was important and it’s one we think we can win,” said Berge. “The Premier League is the main one we want to win though and we need a good start.

“They’ve got some good riders but it’s a team we know we can beat at home. I like the Sheffield track and am really starting to get used to it now. I’ve got a nice set-up that I’m very happy with now and I am starting to score some good points.

“It was nice to get a heat 15 at home last week and it was just a shame I missed the gate after three wins in a row.

“All the boys did their job against Ipswich at home and it was good to get the win.

“We will all need to race very well against Rye House again to get the win and get us ready for the next night.

“Plymouth is another track we can go to and win too and that would put us in a good place after two meetings” said Berge.

The Tigers have switched Berge and Kyle Howarth as Jason Garrity lines up against his former club.

Rye House include former British Under-21 Champion Edward Kennett and ex Tiger Leigh Lanham.

There will also be second half action when the Sheffield Cubs take on the Halifax Dukes.
