The engineering students from Bradfield School sped through the ranks of the worldwide competition with their scaled down, but F1 accurate, racing car. The car’s design had to take account of aerodynamics and technical regulations.

With support from Gripple Automation, the boys were able to use hi-tech prototype equipment to produce plastic car body parts. Gripple also provided display materials, t-shirts and jackets for the team, who dubbed themselves Steel Racing.

Steel Racing steered straight through the regional final at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Rotherham. The national final will be held at Silverstone shortly, and the world final in Texas.

Mark Steeple of Gripple Automation said: “The lads’ enthusiasm and commitment was outstanding and it was a pleasure to be their partners. After all their hard work and extra hours they deserve to be ‘lifting the cup’ at Silverstone and we wish them luck!”

As part of Gripple Limited, Gripple Automation provides the top manufacturer with design and build bespoke machines to improve manufacturing processes and increase performance.
