Staff from Sheffield based Mercury Taxis will be swapping their steering wheels for carrier bags tomorrow to help raise cash for local charities.

The team of 11 will be collecting donations at Asda Mosborough, Drakehouse, between 5pm and 9pm, while giving customers a helping hand with their bag-packing,

The event is one of a series of fundraisers organised by Mercury Taxis as part of this year’s Master Cutler Challenge.

Claire Thompson, marketing assistant, said: “This year, we are fundraising for Sheffield Hospitals Charity supporting the Jessop neonatal unit and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust for disadvantaged children to get a taste of farm life.

“Mercury already looks after Asda customers who use the freephone by the tills to call one of our taxis to help them home with their shopping.

“Now we are taking the strain out of that weekend ‘big shop’ for a great cause.”
